just imagine all the jobs that will be created in the endless cycle of re-building and de-building murals every time the presidency shifts between these 2 parties
“Erasing the mural on the street leading to the White House is expected to take six to eight weeks and cost about $610,000.”
“D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser last week announced plans to remove the large yellow lettering that’s been a landmark in the city since it was installed in 2020, acknowledging she made the move after pressure from the White House.”
Nationwide protests against police brutality, spurred on by the deaths of George Floyd in Minneapolis and Breonna Taylor in Louisville, took place throughout the summer of 2020 and served as the inspiration for Black Lives Matter Plaza.
Beginning in late-May, thousands of peaceful protesters took to the streets of DC to join in the outcry. On June 1, 2020, peaceful demonstrators – many of whom were from DC – were met with violence and tear gas by federal forces between Lafayette Park and St. John’s Church, near the current site of the plaza.
Four days later, the Black Lives Matter mural was unveiled across the plaza where protesters had gathered, commissioned by Mayor Bowser and completed by the DC Public Works Department with the assistance of the MuralsDC program.
Bowser also announced the official renaming of the segment of 16th Street NW, which was made permanent by the DC City Council in October 2020. Black Lives Matter Plaza is a permanent installation in Washington, DC.
Do you think they purposely used as many black workers as possible just to let them personally know their lives in fact don’t matter to the current regime?
As someone who knows very little about road paints/constructions – why are they tearing up concrete? Could they not just paint over it? Without regards of the substance of the decision, I don’t understand why it can’t just be painted over and requires concrete to be dug up. Could someone explain that part to me?
Spending shit loads of money to remove something that wasn’t hurting anyone or causing any trouble seems pretty inefficient. If only there was some sort of agency to look into this sort of wasteful spending 😐😐😐
All the “this stuff is all performative” people are going to have to turn around and say that removing this stuff isn’t “performative”. That the cost of removing it, the manpower involved, the traffic issues, are all necessary for some reason that is not “performative”.
I’m sure they won’t have a problem with this though since they literally stand for nothing so can switch up what they believe to suit the situation at any given moment
Quiet acquiescence is killing us. Any one of those people could have said no, their union could have said no, their council could have said no, the mayor could have said no.
Removing this is a disgusting and pointless waste of taxpayer money, but that’s **par for the course** — something apparently also costing us tens of millions so far.
At this end of the day, we aren’t crying about this as the conservatives would probably believe.
It doesn’t surprise us at all really.
Any symbol of liberty and solidarity is a threat to them. It doesn’t matter if it’s literally just paint on concrete. These people are so small, so weak, they cannot bare to see *anything* that discredits their racial superiority complex.
Personally I can’t wait for the White Lives Matter plaza 100ft statue of Musk doing the “My Heart Goes Out To You” salute that will take its place. Sponsored by Carl’s Jr.: “Fuck You, I’m Eating!”
do they normally rotate murals there or was this part of the “ending DEI” stuff?

“It’s about government efficiency!”
“We’re not racist!”
“We love freedom!”
What does this have to do with the cost of my groceries?
Having black citizens REMOVE a mural that says they matter is crazy, also very telling…

I had understood that there was supposed to be a significant effort to reduce government spending?
Trump is such a small man

I thought this was the party of “not erasing history”. Turns out they just meant confederate, not American history.
$610,000?? So much for government efficiency
the first graffiti artist to replace it with a mural of trump having the protesters maced and beaten wins lifetime hero status.
never forget.
You just know the moment they remove it people are gonna paint it again
THE US is giving a 50yr jump backwards.
Wow, they’re actually spending some money to undo all of this?!?!? You guys are so fucked…
Quiet acquiescence is killing us. Any one of those people could have said no, their union could have said no, their council could have said no, the mayor could have said no.
The Trump Administration’s racism is picking up speed.
Nothing is too petty for them. What a bunch of giant babies.
Removing this is a disgusting and pointless waste of taxpayer money, but that’s **par for the course** — something apparently also costing us tens of millions so far.
Remember, if they think it’ll be safer for themselves to put you on the train to the camp, they’ll do it. Compliance in advance is compliance in fact.

This is what you get when you have a racist president
How did a wise Philosopher once wrote?
“Some of these who burn crosses are the same who work forces”
So much for trimming waste.
Does the road still work? Isn’t this a waste of tax dollars just for the dicktatorship if the road was functional?
Reagan removed the “taxation without representation “ license plates. They’re all snowflakes.
The parallels between the US in the 2020’s and Germany during the 1930’s is, at this point, blatant.
Anyone who has any part in helping remove that mural is a fucking coward.
All black crew in the photos is yet another historical example of racism and bigotry, plus make them clean up the mess.
This is atrocious. It cost a lot of money to erect and now we have to pay to dismantle it long before its life is over? What a bunch of snowflakes
I feel awful for the people whose job it is to destroy this.
Hard to interpret this as anything other than racism at the federal level.
Go super slow. Run into problem. Have forklifts break down. Monkey wrench gang everything.
The mayor is some trash. No back bone whatsoever. Brought and paid for by developers.
Is trump hiding in the White House basement? That’s where he hid when it was being put up.
Trump is one hell of a snowflake
Gotta eliminate that government waste spending… oh, wait.
Personally I can’t wait for the White Lives Matter plaza 100ft statue of Musk doing the “My Heart Goes Out To You” salute that will take its place. Sponsored by Carl’s Jr.: “Fuck You, I’m Eating!”
Imagine if they had actually passed legislation instead of platitudes.
