This ring has been through a lot. A couple weeks ago, I received this message:
“…in 2014 my wife bought for me your Hand-wrought Twisted Damascus Steel and Bourbon Barrel Wood Ring for my wedding band. It was special because of my love of knifemaking and whiskey. Fast forward to last month – we were devastated that we lost it, along with 99% of our belongings and our Altadena home in the Eaton fire. But on Saturday we miraculously found it, under a foot of rubble!”
I have pics here of its discovery, its nasty condition, and the restoration.
Initially, I was very excited to restore this ring to new condition; but instead the customer wanted to leave the charred exterior as untouched as possible. This is, of course, a totally rad idea, symbolism off the charts, and way better than making it new. I am happy to have helped, and happy with how it turned out.
I just picture him throwing it on the ground to shed weight as he fled and then his wife being pissed when she found out. “You couldn’t carry a few grams on your hand?”

“Always remember, Frodo, the Ring is trying to get back to its master. It *wants* to be found.” -Gandalf
Wow. Give whoever made that a raise
Amazing, a phoenix ring born from the ashes!
That heat anodizing is fire
Forged in the fires of Mount Doom
Yea I’m tearing up. Heartbreaking but gorgeous job op.
Rick Harrison: “Best I can do is $20.”

Would wearing it burnish the char off of it?
Something something Mordor something
Guess it’s not the one ring
If there are runes on that thing when heated, I’m flying it to Mauna Loa in a hurry.
